Last week it was the St. Mary's boys turn to try to prove themselves in the State Tournament held in Lincoln. Unfortunately, it wouldn't take them far, as they quickly fell to Wynot to end their State play. Wednesday, March 6 the Cardinals took the stage with Wynot for quarterfinals. The Blue Devils drew first blood when Carson Wieseler sunk two free throws for two early points. There was a lot of back and forth scoring, but the Blue Devils took the early 15-7 lead. Wynot's Dylan Heine kicked off the second quarter with a three-point field goal to give his team the early quarter advantage. The Cards only managed five points in the second while Wynot boosted their score by 12. By halftime, the Blue Devils were up 15 points, leaving little room for Cardinal success. Other than Gage Hedstrom's sneaky two free throws, the third quarter was strictly a Blue Devils scoring frenzy. The finale was the closest the match ever came to an even battle, with the Cardinals putting up seven, and the Blue Devils 10. Cardinal Max Berg made the last score of the game to bring his team to 21 points, while the competition easily won with their 53 points. Shelton would go on to claim the Champion title in the 2024 State Tourney.
