Rev. Jerome H. Meyer

Rev. Jerome H. Meyer, age 71, of O'Neill, passed away Thursday evening, March 7, 2013, at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.

Visitation was held Monday, March 11, 2013, from 4-8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Christ Lutheran Church in O'Neill with Rev. John Ryding and Rev. Russell Sommerfeld officiating. Music was provided by organists, Janet Grosch and Laurie Hacker and singers, Lauren Loop and Vicki Schaaf and the Lutheran/Presbyterian Choir.

Pallbearers were Dan Osmond, Guy Loop, Brent Peterson, James Loop, Clark Meyer, Richard Hacker, Paul Carlson and Roger Bader.

Honorary pallbearers were Gil Gramberg, Don Druckrey, Christopher Osmond, Judah Meyer, Don Larson and A.J. Hacker.

Burial was in the O'Neill Prospect Cemetery in O'Neill.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill was in charge of arrangements.

Jerome (Jerry) Henry Meyer was born Dec. 22, 1941, to Herman and Sophie Meyer. He was baptized and confirmed at Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior. He graduated from Superior High School in 1959. 

He attended St. Paul's College in Concordia, MS, for three years, then earned a bachelor's degree from Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne in 1964. He received a masters in divinity from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1968 and was ordained at Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior.

During his 35 years of ministry he served a vicarage in Long Prairie, MN; was a Pastor at Zion in Power, MT, St. Johns in Fairfield, MT, Immanuel in Hanover, WI, Zion in Town Center, WI and Christ Lutheran in O'Neill.

Jerry married Jacquelyn Elizabeth Druckrey on June 10, 1967, in Pulcifer, WI, at St. John's Lutheran Church. In 1978 the couple moved to O'Neill where they raised their four children: Heidi, Krista, Erika and Jerome Jay. Heidi and husband Guy have two children, James and Lauren; Krista and husband Dan have two children, Danielle and Christopher; Erika and husband Brent have three children, Paige, Claire and Aiva; and Jay and wife Julie have one child, Judah Jerome.

He enjoyed traveling with his family and visited 49 of the states as well as close to 30 countries in Europe and the Holy Land. He was very proud of his German heritage and was always prepared for O'Neill's annual St. Patrick's Day festivities with his German attire and a few smart remarks.

Jerry spent many hours camping and fishing both on his own and with kids and grandkids. He was an avid Nebraska Huskers fan, attending games and passing on his passion for the team to the next generation. Most importantly, he instilled a faith in Christ in his kids and spread the gospel to those in his parishes and beyond. His quiet enduring faith has been a blessing and example to many and a great comfort to his family who looks forward to a blessed reunion with him and their Savior one day.

Memorials may be made to the Orphan Grain Train or to the family for the Reverend Jerome H. Meyer scholarship fund for future church workers.
