Peter N. Sojka
Peter Nicholas Sojka, age 92, of O'Neill, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 26, 2011, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. with a 8 p.m. rosary on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill with Rev. Jeff Lorig officiating. Music was provided by soloist, Marvin Ziska and organist, Susan Kramer.
Pallbearers were Mark Schweer, Christopher Schweer, Trenton Pruden, Matthew Sojka, Kent Johring and Thomas Sojka.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Ewing.
Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill was in charge of arrangements.
Peter was born on Dec. 16, 1918, in Chicago, IL, to Walter and Anna (Boqusz) Sojka. He attended country grade school and graduated from Page High School in 1936. He married Irene Fonfara on June 7, 1947, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Omaha.
He was a farmer and a rancher northeast of Page for many years. After retiring in 1974, he was a leather craftsman, making saddles for everyone, including his grandchildren, making each one of them a miniature saddle.
Peter was a life member of the American Angus Association. He was also a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing and St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; son, Tom Sojka and wife Carol of O'Neill; and daughters, Virginia Schweers and husband Mark of Des Moines, Iowa, and Patricia Pruden and husband Bob of O'Neill; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, John, Cashimir, Leon and Nicholas, DVM.
