The excitement of rodeo tradition meets new opportunity as the First-Time Summerfest Rodeo Queen contest makes its debut in O'Neill on June 13, 2026. Designed specifically for young women, ages 14 to 18, who have never held a rodeo queen title, the contest offers a welcoming and educational introduction to the rodeo world of rodeo royalty. The first time Rodeo Queen Contest celebrates horsemanship, sportsmanship, leadership and community involvement. Contestants will be judged on a variety of elements including horsemanship, appearance, personality and a personal interview, all in a supportive environment that encourages growth and confidence. “This contest is about opening doors”, Sheleene and Jacque of the O'Neill Summerfest Committee are saying. "We want to give first time contestants the chance to learn, compete and experience the pride that comes with representing rodeo traditions and our community.” The newly crowned First -Time Rodeo Queen will serve as an ambassador for O'Neill Summerfest Rodeo, making appearances throughout the year and helping promote Western heritage, youth involvement and local events. The contest will take place at the Holt County Annex Building, for the interviewing process and the O'Neill rodeo grounds for the horsemanship event. Entry deadline is June 1st, 2026. For more information you can contact Sheleene Charf-Kamphaus at 402-340-9099 or Jacque Murray at 402-340-8020.
