Sept. 18 was a perfect “Mary Poppins Day” as the St. Mary's Catholic Schools' students utilized their creativity to brighten the front of their school with chalk drawings. Sponsored by the St. Mary's Student Council, students signed up as an individual or group artists. Each signee then took a sidewalk section on which to express themselves. Some of the segments contained messages of faith while others incorporated animated figures. Still others communicated thoughts of fall or patriotism. Ann Schneider and Tish Chaney volunteered to judge the artwork and found the task extremely difficult. First place went to Alexa Shald, Addy Shald and Bella Barlow with a flower design centered around Philippians 4:19. Second place went to Presley Pribil and Abby Everitt with a multi-color shell design and the encouragement “Be the Brightest Color in the Box.” Third place went to Betsy Crumly, Will Otte and Catilyn Reiser with a leaf-pumpkin design of “Happy Fall, Y'All”. Forty-nine students participated in the contest with other students doing chalk runs and providing moral support. (0) COMMENTSWelcome to the discussion.
