Call to Order

The regular board meeting of the O'Neill Public School Board of Education was called to order by Vice President Amy Jo Rowse at 7:33 pm, on Monday, May 9, 2022 at the Administrative Offices at 410 East Benton, O'Neill, Nebraska.

Administrators Jill Brodersen, Nick Hostert, Amy Shane, Shannon Stelling, Will Wragge, and Jim York were present. 

Steve Brown, Building and Grounds Director, was also present.

Football Field Concession Stand/Restroom Project

A motion to enter into a lump sum agreement with Davis Design for the concession/restroom project, passed with a motion made by Coby Welke and seconded by Amy Rowse.

Report on Track Progress

Mr. Hostert and Mrs. Shane updated the board regarding the status of the track. It was recommended by the school attorney to have an independent track consultant verify the condition and recommend some possible remedies. No action necessary.

New Business

2021-2022 School Calendar Update

The administration announced that students would be dismissed one day earlier than planned due to no snow days during the school year.  Students will be dismissed for the 2021-2022 school year at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, May 18th. Teachers will have Thursday and Friday, May 19th and 20th as staff development days. No action taken.

Review of Boiler Bids

A motion to accept the bid from SteppCo in the amount of $94,852 to remove the old boiler and install the new ones at the Elementary School, unseconded with a motion made by Amy Rowse.

A motion to accept the bid from SteppCo in the amount of $94,852 to remove the old boiler and install two new Lochinvar boilers at the Elementary School, passed with a motion made by Barton Becker and seconded by Michael Hammerlun.

Mandy Chavez with Beginnings Pregnancy Center shared with the board information about the Choosing the Best health curriculum.

A motion to purchase and adopt the Choosing the Best health curriculum for the freshman class, was tabled with a motion made by Amy Rowse and seconded by Michael Hammerlun.

President Gene Chohon opened a public hearing at 8:45 pm to receive input, discuss, and consider, any changes to the Student Fee Policy.  Having received no public comment, President Chohon closed the hearing at 8:47 pm.
