Well, never say never. Warren Buffett might get an itch for MLB and move a franchise into the area but in reality, it’s not very likely.
Besides the fact that Omaha plays host to the D1 college World Series it is also a very small market for both TV, media and in terms of population. No MLB owner dare take on those issues when the ultimate goal is to turn a profit. As it is, MLB has some “sick” franchises in pretty large markets like Tampa and Miami. Why would anyone add a third to the list?
I’d expect Omaha to continue to support its AAA franchise and college baseball. It will not be the domain of the MLB.
