The O'Neill Hall of Fame winners were announced at the Summerfest Rodeo on Friday evening. Awarded this year were Matt Dennis and Michael Stepp and Lauri Havranek. Awards are given to people who have made a difference in the City of O'Neill. The awards are given out every two years. Matt Dennis & Michael Stepp Many know them as the owners of Handlebend, building hand built copper mugs and operating the Handlebend building that includes a coffee shop, bar, and local events that keep our community thriving. However their talents expand through multiple other businesses and projects that they are involved in. Through their entrepreneurial spirit and vision, they have not only started and maintained multiple businesses, but have also transformed buildings and revitalized the town's landscape. The contributions of these men continue to have a significant impact on O'Neill, making it a better place to visit, to live and to call home. Matt and Michael's decision to return to their hometown and raise their families here is a testament to their love and commitment to this community. They chose to put down roots and invest in the area. They have not only brought new life and energy with them, but have also instilled a sense of continuity and tradition. Matt and Michael's story serves as a shining example of the impact that individuals can have when they choose to invest their time, talents and resources into their community. Lauri Havranek When we think of our great town of O'Neill & all that it stands for—our rich Irish history, our fun-loving nature, our unmatched work ethic, & our true sense of caring, there's one person that many of us feel exemplifies it all. This person is Lauri Havranek. Her green St. Pat's suit & bubbly voice on the radio telling us all about what's coming up in the community are hard to miss. Lauri is not only an awesome Chamber of Commerce leader, but has more energy and volunteers more than anyone could ask. She does an amazing job keeping the many committees of the Chamber organized & running smoothly. And that positive attitude is contagious. Our St. Pat's & Summerfest celebrations have gone to the next level under her leadership. Lauri is one of the hardest workers most of us know. She is very involved with not only the Chamber-related committees, but also Lion's Club, Rotary, O'Neill Community Foundation Fund, High School Rodeo, and many other organizations that make our community a great place to live. The bottom line is Lauri makes things happen & we appreciate all that she does to make O'Neill a great place for all of us to live!
