O'Neill Girls Fall 0-2 In Last Week's Games

Dec 14, 2022 (0)

O'Neill's Ashley Sidak drives past a Hartington C.C. player in action from Friday, Dec. 9 at home.

The O'Neill girls basketball team seems to be having a tough time getting into the playing spirit this season. They faced off against Battle Creek and Cedar Catholic last Tuesday and Friday and were unable to walk away with a victory.

From the beginning of the first match, the girls were having trouble getting into the groove of the game. The Battle Creek Braves on the other hand, came out like a storm, putting up almost 40 points in the first half of the game.

The Eagles did manage to steal fourth quarter by a single point, but this was simply not enough at this point in the match.

Leading the Eagles this match was Ashley Sidak with 11 points, shooting two of two in three pointers for 100 percent and one of three in two pointers for 33 percent, as well as two rebounds; Bergyn Classen six points and two rebounds; Emma Smith three points and two rebounds; Serena Chavez two points and two rebounds; Olivia Young two points; Taylor Cuhel one point and one rebound; Brenda Gdanitz two rebounds; and Autumn Hilker one rebound.

Game two against the Cedar Catholic Trojans went a little more smoothly, but not by enough for it make a big impact.

The opening quarter was a slow start for both teams. The Trojans managed to take it, but the Eagles still had a fair chance at the win. Quarter two the Eagles dropped the ball and weren't able to keep up. Now trailing by 12 points, the Eagles would have to put in some good work if they had any hope of winning.

The third quarter pretty much cemented the Trojan victory, pushing ahead by eight more points. Just like their last game, the Eagles took quarter four by one point, but also like the last game, this didn't leave much of an impact on the score board.

Leading the Eagles this time was Smith with 18 points, shooting two of seven three pointers for 29 percent and four of seven in two pointers for 57 percent; Classen 10 points and four rebounds; Young five points and one rebound; Sidak four points and one rebound; Rylee Selby two points; Gdanitz seven rebounds; Cuhel and Elly Sterns two rebounds each; and Chavez one rebound
