O'Neill Boys Harriers Earn Team Title At O'Neill Invite

The O'Neill Cross Country held their annual invitational at the O'Neill Country Club Friday. Sixteen schools from the area competed at the meet. 

The O'Neill Varsity boys team won the team title. Sophomores Max Berg placing third, and Paul Fonseca sixth, lead the team. Junior Tomas Arciniega placing 13th, and senior Trevor Alder 15th. All medaled in the top 15. Rounding out the varsity was Brandon Romero 18th and Brock Latzel 27th. 

“The boys' team is realizing if you attack the middle portion of the race, that you can really improve your outcome,” said Coach Hilker. 

The O'Neill Varsity girls competed as well. Due to injury the girls didn't have a complete team. Junior Taya Dickau medaled, placing ninth. Mollie Corkle was 25th and Hailey Romesser 31st. 

“We ran a lot better than last week,” said Hilker.

In the junior varsity division, the top ten runners earned medals. Evan Cole placed first, Alex Otte second, Logan Bradshaw third, Gabriela Arrigoni fourth, Caleb Larsen fifth, Luke Wilson sixth and Gavin Kruse 10th.  Rounding out the junior varsity team was Liam Kennedy 14th, Kaleb Asche 15th and Tucker Cook 16th. 

The junior high girls race, 56 girls competed and the top 10 received medals. Kiarra Kennedy placed third, Taylee Wade 28th, Jailynn Romesser 32nd, Lynn Miner 35th, Emma Bowder 36th, Isabelle Krause 44th and Julianna Baltazar 47th. The team placed fourth overall. 

The junior high boys were the last race of the day. Like the girls race the top 10 individuals earned medals. Alonso Hernandez placed third, Tyson Becker fourth, Angel Sanchez fifth, Jordani Perez sixth, Kyler Wettlaufer seventh, Isaiah Wiekamp 18th, Jase Sanders 24th, Dane Asche 27th, Lane Dougherty 28th and Fernando Cayax  46th. The junior high boys team walked away with the team title with 10 points. 

The team will have this week off to train. Then next week the varsity will compete at the UNK Invite, Sept. 30th, with Class C boys running at 3 p.m., and Class C girls at 4 p.m. OHS will then travel to the West Holt Invitational, Oct. 3rd. The West Holt Invite starts at 4 p.m.
