Northeast O'Neill Campus To Host Annual Health Conference

Several sessions will be held during Northeast Community College's 2023 O'Neill Health Conference. Upon completion of the conference, participants will be able to self-report an increased knowledge on emotional trauma, poisoning, bone health, and the healthcare team. The conference will be held Tue., June 27, from 8:30 a.m-4 p.m., in the O'Neill Community Center, 501 S. 4th Street. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. Following registration, breakfast, welcome and announcements, Dr. Ryan Sieg will open the conference on Bone Health, Osteoporosis and Fragility Fractures. He will focus on the basics of bone health, review the definition, epidemiology, and implications of osteoporosis, as well as current treatments, and explore and identify common fragility fractures. During a discussion on Management of Poisons, Kathy Jacobitz, MHS, BSN, RN, CSPI, will talk about identifying healthcare services provided by the Nebraska Regional Poison Center and the types of cases managed by the center, a discussion on the latest drug overdose and treatment trends, and explore available resources to assist healthcare professionals with medical management of chemical and other hazardous materials incidents. Following lunch, a session on Trauma 101 & Recovery by Beth Reynolds-Lewis, BS, & Kay Glidden, MS will define trauma and recognize types of trauma, understand the impact of trauma on children and adults and discuss healing and recovery interventions and methods. The day will conclude with the session, Creating Conditions for Success. Dan Kuester, director of service excellence and risk management at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, will discuss elements of a healthy work environment, methods for effective communication within a team, and identify performance standards and accountability. The conference has been approved by the Washington State Nurses Association Continuing Education Approval and Recognition Program (CEARP) for six nurse contact hours of continuing education. Cost of the conference is $85, with pre-registration due by Fri., June 23. Participants are asked to register with course number NURS 5115 and CRN #70549. Attendance for the entire day and an evaluation at the workshop conclusion is required for contact hours.
