New Emergency Department At Avera Now Open For Business

Jun 7, 2023 (0)

Avera St. Anthony's Hospital is pleased to announce that its new Emergency Department will officially open on Tuesday, June 6.

A public open house, blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony were held on Thursday, May 18, for completion of the first phase of the project that added approximately 6,000 square feet to the hospital and remodels another 1,800 square feet. The celebration marking the completion of the first phase allowed the community to view the Emergency and Radiology departments prior to opening them for patient use.

The second phase, which will remodel the current Emergency Department rooms, as well as the Radiology Department area, will begin in the coming weeks.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has conducted a survey of the new space and provided approval to proceed with opening to patient use. We ask that patients continue to go directly to the current Emergency Department until the new one is opened.

The new Radiology space is already in use.

“After experiencing such great community support during our May 18 open house, we can't wait to reach our next milestone – opening the new Emergency Department to patient use,” said Kayleen Lee, President and CEO of Avera St. Anthony's Hospital.

“I'm very proud of this project and the professionalism of our staff as we have worked through implementation of the space. Thank you also to our patients for their understanding as we have gone through this construction process. We can't wait to wrap up phase two and have everything operational. Our commitment remains to make a positive impact in the lives and health of persons and communities by providing quality services guided by Christian values.”

BWBR Architects and Hausmann Construction are partners on the project.

Avera St. Anthony's Hospital has been in O'Neill since 1952 and became a part of Avera in 1998. Inspired by a tradition of service begun by the Sisters of the Presentation and Benedictine Orders more than 100 years ago, Avera Health currently operates 37 hospitals and has more than 300 locations.

As a health ministry rooted in the Gospel, Avera's mission is to make a positive impact in the lives and health of persons and communities by providing quality services guided by Christian values.
