Naomi "Jean" Hoyne, 87, of O'Neill, formerly of Stover, MO, died Monday, May 5, 2025 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill after a short illness.

Memorial visitation was held Saturday, May 10, 2025 at O'Neill Methodist Church in O'Neill.

Memorial services were held Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the church in O'Neill. Pastor Bob Wynn officiated.

Burial will be in the Paddock Cemetery near Midway at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Jean was born on Feb. 7, 1938, in Stuart, to Paul and Marjorie (Hendricks) Nelson. She was raised on the family farm, northeast of O'Neill in a house just up from her grandparents, with whom she shared a special bond. She attended District #1 Country School and graduated high school from the Wesleyan School in Milton Vale, KS in 1956. She then earned a teaching certificate from Wayne State Teacher's College that she used briefly to teach in the O'Neill area. Realizing that teaching was not her calling, she attended business school in Omaha, where she and her future sister-in-law Nancy were roommates.

She met her future husband Thomas T. Hoyne at a holiday party in Kansas City.  They married on June 21, 1961, in Kansas City, MO. While Tom finished dental school, Jean worked for the Hallmark Company. Following Tom's graduation, they moved to Stover where they established his dental practice in the summer of 1963. She worked by his side for the next 37 years until his retirement in 2000. They continued to reside in Stover until his death in 2020.

Jean joined Christ Lutheran Church in 1964 and served on the Altar Guild. More recently she attended Trinity Pyrmont Church in rural Stover before moving back to Nebraska where she then attended the O'Neill Methodist Church. She served in the churches as a Sunday school teacher, youth mission trip leader, Vacation Bible School teacher, sang in the church choir, and participated in the church council.   She was also an active member of Rhoda Circle at Trinity Pyrmont Church.

Within the community Jean was a member of the Golden Age Living Center Guild and the Stover Industrial Development Corporation. She was on the advisory board for Morgan County Health Center from 1997-2009 and then was on the regular board from 2009-2021 for a total of 24 years of service to Morgan County Health Center. She also served as the secretary of Sedalia's Archeological Group.

Following some health issues in August of 2022, she returned home to Nebraska to be closer to family. While living at Country Lane Retirement Village, she was able to participate in many family gatherings and activities. She enjoyed trips out to the farm and enjoyed picking cherries and petting the cats and dogs while reminiscing about her childhood years.

“And from His word, she learned the way to walk by faith from day to day.” She lived by these words from her baptism in 1948 at Paddock Community Church until she entered her eternal home.

Jean is survived by her sister-in-law Nancy Nelson of O'Neill; nieces and nephews Sara (Doug) Crumrine of O'Neill, Beth (Tim) Lenz of Sheridan, WY, Scott (Tracey) Nelson of Palm Bay, FL and Brad Nelson of Micco, FL; 10 great-nieces and -nephews Jessica (Ben) Rezac, Austin (Shelby) Crumrine, Mason Crumrine, Jeremy Grimes, Jacob Grimes, Isaac Grimes, Bailey (Jordan) Isaak, Ryan Nelson, Rosie Nelson and Brittney Nelson; and one great-great-nephew Tate Crumrine.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Dr. Thomas T. Hoyne, her parents Paul and Marjorie and one brother Paul Nelson.
