Mildred M. Long

Mildred Marion Long, age 84, of O'Neill, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2011, at her home in O'Neill.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill. Rev. John Ryding officiated. Music was provided by Toni Schneider, organist and Kay Stepp, soloist,

Interment was in the O'Neill Prospect Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Donn Landholm, Kent Landholm, Garry Boska, Larry Boska, Todd Moody and Trefer Waller.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill was in charge of the arrangements.

Millie was born Jan. 30, 1927, to Thomas and Anna (Scheinost) (Hambeck) Boska on a farm two miles south of Spencer. She grew up on farms, south and later north of Spencer. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1945. She worked as a bookkeeper at Friedrich Chev. until 1953.

On Feb. 22, 1953, she married Melvin J. Long at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spencer. To this union one son was born. They lived in Oakland, CA, while Mel Jay was in the Navy until 1954. In 1954 they moved back to Boyd County living in Lynch, Spencer and Bristow until moving to O'Neill in 1962. Millie worked as a bookkeeper for Gambles in O'Neill. In 1975 Mel and Millie bought an auto repair business where Millie did the bookkeeping. Millie also worked at Sears catalog store in O'Neill during this time. Mel Jay passed away on Feb. 12, 1981.

Millie worked as a clerk at Devoy's and later Johnson's Drug Stores until her retirement in 1991.

Millie enjoyed spending time with her family and especially delighted in her grandchildren. She enjoyed following their activities and took great pride in their accomplishments. She loved to read the newspapers and keep up on current events. She also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in her yard. She was an avid Braves baseball fan and didn't miss a game on TV. She liked to remind everyone when her team was winning. She was very pleased to be a great-grandma and enjoyed her visits with her grandchildren.

Millie is survived by her son, Randy Long and his wife Joan of O'Neill; three grandchildren, Christy Hostert and husband Steve of Mitchell, SD, Julie Maulsby and husband Noah of Kearney and Michael Long of Wayne; three great-grandchildren, Taylor and Kaytee Hostert and Carson Maulsby; two sisters, Irene Stringfellow of Spencer and Goldie Olin of Wood River; and one brother, Tommy Boska of Spencer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Anna Boska; her husband, Mel in 1981; two sisters, Helen Krupicka and Ethel Soukup; and two brothers, Ray Boska and Bill Hambek.
