Mildred "Millie" Mae Wallace, 91, of O'Neill, formerly of Papillion, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022 at the Arbor Care Center in O'Neill.

A celebration of life was held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Papillion.

Burial will be held at a later date in Esbon, KS. In her final act of generosity, Mildred donated her body to science.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill is in charge of the arrangments.

Mildred was born on June 19, 1931 in Hastings to Ralph Thomas and Mary Alice (Wittwer) Shute. She lived with her three siblings on the family farm in Esbon, KS. Mildred graduated from Esbon High School in 1949 after which she attended Brown Mackie Business School in Salina, KS.

Mildred married her high school sweetheart Robert “Bob” Aldridge Wallace on Dec. 17, 1950 in Esbon. To this union six children were born Marjorie, Roberta “Bobbi,” Dick, Lorene, Joan and Rus. 

Bob was a grain merchandiser, and the couple made their home in Topeka for a time before moving to Salina, KS, then Atchison, KS, back to Salina, KS and finally, to Papillion in 1968 where Mildred adopted the nickname “Millie.”

Millie sold real estate in Salina, KS. and Papillion. In 1971, she founded Lampliter Real Estate in Papillion. She enjoyed meeting new families and helping them find their new homes until her retirement in 2014. Due to her failing health, she moved to O'Neill in 2018 to live with her daughters Margie and Bobbi. 

She was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Papillion, where she served as a Stephen Minister. Millie was elected to the Papillion-La Vista School Board and served for 16 years, she held every officer role including several years as president. She was a member of the Nebraska Association of School Boards and served as president in 1986.

Millie loved to play cards. She and Bob were members of bridge clubs in almost every town in which they lived. The couple also loved to travel, enjoying trips to Europe three times, Canada twice and all over the USA, many times to cheer for the Nebraska Cornhuskers in bowl games. Millie became a tour guide with Moostash Joe's Bus Tours. She hosted bus tours and Bob went along on many of them. The couple chaperoned Bobbi and Dick's Papillion-LaVista high school band trip to Vienna, Austria.

Millie is survived by her six children Margie Wallace, Bobbi Soukup and Dick (Sally) Wallace, all of O'Neill, Lorene (Tim Pellowski) Wallace of Austin, Texas, Joan (Scott) Nielsen of Burbank, SD and Rus (Kristi) Wallace of Papillion; 13 grandchildren Chad (Michelle) Soukup, Brooke (Brad Kotrous) Ross, Joe (Nicole Padilla) Soukup, Ted Soukup, Sarah (Jackson) Medina, Luke (Trista) Wallace, Elizabeth (Clayton) Lienemann, Aaron (Rachel) Pellowski, Braden Pellowski, Rob Nielsen, Laura (Cory) Zehring, Casey Wallace and Colby Wallace; 14 great-grandchildren;five sisters- and brothers-in-law Jeri Shute of Kansas and Juliene Wallace of Arizona, Jerry DeWitt of Kansas and Gloria and Ivan Kurtz of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob Wallace in 2014, one brother Edward Shute, two sisters Maribelle Sealock and Pauline DeWitt and one brother-in-law Trenton Sealock.
