Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Marlienne was born May 16, 1945. Her parents were Ruth Marie Wehrly and William Marlie Fetherston. Marlie had the honor of delivering his daughter Marlienne at their home in Atkinson. She attended grade school in both Stuart and Atkinson. Marlienne graduated from Atkinson High School in 1963. After graduation, she moved to Omaha and worked at TipTop hair products in Omaha. Finding that Omaha was not her desire, she returned home and worked at the Atkinson Good Samaritan Home. On Feb. 14, 1965, she married James F. Hoppe in Atkinson. Despite her doctor's word that she would never have any biological children, she never lost hope and had three God-given miracles Heather Ruthmarie, Misty Juliemarie and William James. Life after marriage found Marlienne at her home 10 miles east of Atkinson where she resided until her death. There she worked alongside her husband milking cows, first by hand and then eventually with electric milkers. Her cows were her audience and she continued to use her vocals serenading them twice a day. She raised chickens, a large vegetable and flower garden, helped with the pipeline pulling, worked in the hayfield. She also took care of her Uncle Dick, who had Down's syndrome, as he lived next door to them at the farm. Marnie had many talents from floral arrangements, to cake decorating, cooking, to making life fun for those around her. She accepted the Lord as her savior and was baptized at the Faith Wesleyan Church in Atkinson. After making the decision to return to college, she sadly sold the herd of cows and joined Misty to be roommates in college in January of 1993. Marnie received her LPN (licensed practical nurse) license in May of 1994. She started her nursing career at West Holt Memorial Hospital. She worked as a floor nurse. Eventually she joined the surgery crew, although she needed a step stool to stand on. In 1998, Marnie was inflicted with microscopic polyarteritis disease, which eventually caused another change from patient care to working behind the scenes in the Medical Records Department of West Holt Memorial Hospital until her retirement. Her medical diagnosis attacked her lungs and kidneys. Again she amazed the healthcare field when they told her she would not see her son graduate from high school. She never gave up hope despite the many health issues that would follow. She always reminded everyone that you can handle anything that comes your way as God is with you each step of the way. Her body was broken but not her spirit and the Lord quietly took her to Heaven during her sleep at her home on the anniversary of her father's death, Oct. 4th. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Jim; one daughter Misty (Tyler); one son Bill; four grandchildren Miya and Brooke Carey and Autumn and Jaylynn Hoppe; and four siblings Julie Fetherston, Jill (Leon) McConnell, Bob (Jayne) Fetherston and Lisa (Scott) Fix. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Ruth and Marlie, her daughter Heather, her father-and mother-in-law Carl and Ella and her Uncle Dick.
