Marie was born on April 27, 1930, to John and Edith (Moses) Wilcox in Stuart. She was the youngest of seven children. She attended country school in rural Holt County. She boarded for one year in Atkinson to attend Atkinson High School before moving to Stuart to live with her sister Lucy™s family and finish high school, graduating in 1948.

She was always grateful for the opportunity to finish high school. During her senior year, she completed the Normal Training to teach school. She lived with her brother Chuck and taught for one year in Brocksburg.

This is where she met Harley "Bud" McCumber. They were married in Elko, NV in 1949. They lived in Brocksburg until his death in 1964. Together they had seven children.

After Bud™s death, she moved her family to Atkinson. Hansen Brothers moved her house to East State Street where she lived until 2013. She and John Hansen were married in 1967. They had three children.

Marie™s passion was her family, taking great pride in all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved holidays when the kids and grandkids were there, especially Christmas Eve. Each grandchild had a special relationship with “Grandma Rie.”

Throughout the years, she was an active ranch wife, whether it was raising and dressing chickens, helping save baby calves by bringing them into the house to warm up during calving season or making lunches and dinners for the hayfield workers.

She never missed a sporting event that one of her kids was in, especially a track meet.

She also enjoyed quilting. She made hundreds of quilts. Each grandchild has both a hand-embroidered baby quilt and an ABC quilt, as well as quilts for graduations and weddings.

There was always a fresh cup of coffee, and if you were early enough, hot breakfast for anyone who cared to stop by the house.

She spent many hours playing cards and in recent years rarely turned down a Busch Light.

Marie is survived by her nine children Elaine (Jim) Poessnecker and Rhonda (John) Skrdla, all of Stuart, Rod (Juli) McCumber and Janet McGrath, all of Atkinson, Myra (Mike) Schmaderer of Lincoln, Dan (Karla) McCumber of Joliet, MT, Penny Wedige of Lincoln, Greg (Laurie) Hansen of Amelia and Lana (Ryan) Dummer of Aurora; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one sister Cora Dickau of Atkinson; and one sister-in-law Beverly Wilcox of Battle Creek.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Harley McCumber and John Hansen; one son Timothy McCumber; one son-in-law Kevin Schaaf; four brothers Charles, Lawrence, John and Raymond "Bud" Wilcox; and one sister Lucy Norton.
