Margaret Francis Petersen, 89, of O'Neill, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Soicety in Atkinson. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill. Fr. Bernard Starman officiated. Burial was in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill was in charge of the arrangements. Margaret was born on June 12, 1933 in Atkinson to Frank and Josephine (Ziska) Noziska. After graduation from St. Joseph's Catholic School, Margaret worked at the Council Oak Store in Atkinson. On April 20, 1954, Margaret married Harlan E. Petersen of O'Neill. Harlan and Marge made their home in O'Neill. To this union, five children were born. When all the children were in school, Marge went to work at the Wickery & Kitchen Shoppe and later at the O'Neill Book & Office for nine years. In 1997, Marge retired and went to take care of her new grandson until he entered first grade. She said these were some of her happiest years. They spent many hours together with all of their 12 grandchildren – who were the joy of their lives. Marge was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Patrick's Altar Society, Legion of Mary, St. Francis Association and the American Life League. Marge is survived by her four children Deb (Tom) Young and their children Drew Young, Lance (Amanda) Schluns and Brandi (Mike) Flynn; Cindy (Allan) Stone and their children Kristin (Grant) Herbold and Adam Stone; Susan (Victor) Young and their children Austin (Tiffany) Young, Audra (Brian) Haas and Rhett (Allison) Young; and Shawn (Douglas) Dilly and their children Maddie, Brynn and Matthew; one daughter-in-law Sondra Petersen and her son Mason; 13 great-grandchildren,Wyatt and Alex Schluns, Reghan, Brodey, Mack, Ellison and Josiah Flynn, Ezra and Oliver Herbold, Beckett, Grayson, Etta and Rudy Young; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harlan “Pete” Petersen in 2007, one son Steven Petersen in 2022 and one great-granddaughter Ayvah Flynn.
