Mabel Ella Eby, age 98, of O'Neill passed away early Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in O'Neill.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at the Methodist Church in O'Neill. Pastor Craig Collins officiated with music provided by soloist, Monica Eby.
Pallbearers were Todd Eby, David Eby, Bill Eby, Bob Eby, Chase Hughes, and Ethan Tompkins. Honorary pallbearers were Mabel's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.
Interment was in the O'Neill Prospect Cemetery.
Biglin's Mortuary, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
Mabel Ella Nissen was born on Oct. 15, 1912, on the homestead in Page to Anton and Pauline (Fuelberth) Nissen.
She graduated from Page High School in 1930 and married Raymond Eby of Woodlake on April 18, 1934, at Lake Andes, SD. She made her home in O'Neill since 1935.
Mabel enjoyed her 40 years as O'Neill's Taxi Service, quilting and lunching with the Methodist women and visiting with family and friends. She loved to work crossword puzzles, read, enjoyed sporting events and playing scrabble with her many grand and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Dorcas Circle. Mabel helped serve dinners for various occasions, spent several years of service delivering Meals on Wheels and her quilting group for the past 40 years.
Mabel was involved in many capacities with businesses Ray was involved in. You might have known her as bookkeeper of Conoco Gas Station for 15 years or tidying up Eby's Inc. showroom every evening for 35 years. Some say she was checking on her boys to see if they were working.
Survivors include her children, David L. and wife, Bev, Bob and wife, Colleen, and Fred and wife, Jeannette, all of O'Neill; Bill and wife, Linda, of Cordova, TN; one sister, June Webb of Scottsbluff; two brothers, Don Nissen and wife, Doris, of Norfolk and Lorenz Nissen and wife, Katherine of Wilmington, NC; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; two brothers, Dale and Milton; and by her twin sister Melda Webber and sister, Lou Clark.
Memorials are suggested to the O'Neill United Methodist Church or O'Neill's Meals on Wheels.
