Larry was born on Nov. 18, 1943 in Plainview to Robert A. and Naomi (Krause) Pendergast. Larry grew up in Plainview with his parents and brother Lyle.
At age 16, Larry moved to Lincoln, where he got his first job as a carpenter/mason. A few years later he moved back to his hometown to work with his dad and uncle in the cement business. Larry was a self-employed carpenter/mason his entire life (even in retirement).
Larry and his family lived in Longmont, CO for a few years but spent most of his life in and around the Plainview area. Later in life Larry moved with his wife Shirley to an acreage in Inman.
Larry's hobbies included fishing in Nebraska as well as South Dakota and taking yearly fishing trips to Canada. Most of all he enjoyed having coffee with his friends every morning and playing cards with his family whenever he got the chance.
To know Larry was to love him. He was a small man with a huge heart and would lend a helping hand to anyone. He loved his family and cherished every moment he spent with them near and far.
He was blessed to spend the last days of his life surrounded by loved ones and sharing stories with them that they will cherish forever.
Larry is survived by his wife Shirley of 41 years; five children Bobbie (Rob) Borchers, Sheila (Jeff) Herfel, Lisa (Chris) Elsten, Mike (Molly) Pendergast and Jolene (Tyler) Sanne; one brother Lyle (Peggy) Pendergast; 14 grandchildren Brittany (Michael) Yardley, Brandon and Alex Borchers, Ashley (Noah) Jensen, Justin, Jamie and Kayla Herfel, Tyler (Liz) Elsten, Michael (Ashley) Elsten, Andrew and Matthew Elsten, Kaleb and Kamden Pendergast and Hannah Sanne; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert A. and Naomi Pendergast, several uncles, aunts and many other family members throughout the years.
