After a well-deserved break recently, the O'Neill Eagle basketball girls took to the stage once again Monday, Dec. 29 when they invited Boyd County to a home tournament match. It seems the time away did not diminish the Eagles' skills, as they were able to easily overcome their latest opponents.

The lady Eagles already have an almost flawless record this season, and they weren't about to allow another blemish right after their break. From the beginning, it was a landslide takedown from the home team. The Spartans lagged behind with 15 points in the opening half while the Eagles skyrocketed to 36.

Things began to slow down shortly after, but that's not to say the Eagles didn't keep their pace up. By the end, the Spartans were thoroughly sunk, never breaking through the Eagles' tough defenses.

Bergyn Classes had the top stats with 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals; Hannah Hilker right behind with 17 points, one rebound and one steal; Taylor Young had 14 points, four rebounds and three steals; Rylee Selby had seven points and four rebounds; Serena Chavez had four points and one rebound; Mariah Kallhoff had three points, eight rebounds and one steal; Gracie Treptow had three points and one steal; Mady Heiss had two points, five rebounds and three steals; Mia Lindsay had two points, one rebound and one steal; Hailey Fick had one rebound and two steals; and Bristol Scott had one rebound.

With one last match to squeeze in the 2025 year, the girls dueled an even 4-4 St. Paul team.

The Eagles delivered the heat early on, bringing the Wildcats tumbling down 28-10 from the onset. If this match wasn't already determined, then the Eagles decided to completely lay waste to their opponent. After three dominant sessions, things began to cool down in the end, but the Eagles had already sky-rocketed to the top of the charts.

Classen once again led with 22 points and six rebounds; Hilker had 17 points, four rebounds and one steal; Young had nine points, 10 rebounds and one steal; Kallhoff had four points, five rebounds and two steals; Selby and Lindsay both had two points, two rebounds and one steal; Scott had two points and one rebound; Chavez had two points; Fick had one point, four rebounds and one steal; Blakely Sudbeck had one point and one rebound; Heiss had five rbounds; and Treptow had one rebound.

With just a few days passing by, it was the new year, and the Eagles had their work cut out for them. They hosted a strong 9-1 Crofton team to kick off the 2026 events.

It was a devastating start for the home girls, getting trounced 14-4 right from the get-go. The Eagles quickly adapted, however, and made a huge stride to bring the game back to them. By the end of the third quarter, they had managed to catch up, and both teams entered the finale with 34 points. Determined to start the new year on a high note, the Eagles gave it their all and started to back the Warriors in a corner. When the buzzer rang out, the Eagles had pulled ahead 51-46 to claim the top spot for their first match of 2026.

Hilker rose above with 17 points, one rebound and one steal; Heiss had 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals; Classen had eight points, three rebounds and four steals; Young had seven points, six rebounds and two steals; Selby had six points and five rebounds; and Kallhoff had three points, six rebounds and one steal
