After a tough few games lately, the Eagles were finally given a break recently when they faced Ponca last Monday in the first round of the Mid States Conference. In the opening, both teams were constantly on top of one another, but it was the Eagles who took the lead. After that, the Eagles laid the pressure on even harder, and the Indians fell to the wayside. The Eagles took the match 3-0; 26-24, 25-15 & 25-18. Bergyn Classen was the MVP with 10 kills, one block and one dig; Mariah Kallhoff had seven kills, one ace serve, one block and four digs; Hannah Hilker had six kills, four ace serves, one block, seven digs and 27 set assists; Autumn Jackson had six kills, one ace serve, two blocks, two digs and two set assists; Blakely Sudbeck had five kills, eight digs and one set assist; Mia Lindsay had three kills, one block and one dig; Hailey Fick had one kill, one ace serve and six digs; Serena Chavez had one ace serve, seven digs and one set assist; Madelynn Kellum had one ace serve and one dig; and Reagan Kaufman had four digs and two set assists. Later in the day, the Eagles faced a strong 22-4 Norfolk Catholic team, who was the host of the event. The Eagles made a solid stride from the start, but fell just short. It was only downhill from there, as the Eagles scoring steadily declined. The Knights came out on top 3-0, 25-19, 25-15 & 25-12. Kallhoff stole the show with 11 kills, two ace serves and two digs; Classen had five kills, one block and one set assist; Sudbeck had five kills and six digs; Lindsay had two kills; Hilker had three ace serves, 11 digs and 18 set assists; Fick had one ace serve and three digs; Jackson had one block and one dig; Chavez had five digs and two set assists; and Kaufman had four digs. The next day the Eagles wrapped up their play when they faced Cedar Catholic. It was a rough start for the girls, falling 25-15 in the opener. The Eagles bit back in the second, but still fell just short. In the end, the Eagles fumbled again and the Trojans pulled ahead 3-0; 25-15, 25-23 & 25-15. Classen led with six kills, one block and five digs; Kallhoff also with six digs, one block and three digs; Sudbeck had six kills, seven digs and three set assists; Lindsay had four kills, one block and one dig; Hilker had two kills, one ace serve, nine digs and 17 set assists; Fick had one kill, two ace serves, four digs and one set assist; Jackson had one block and two digs; Chavez had seven digs; Kaufman had dour digs; and Kellum had two digs.
