Lady Eagles Now 11-1 On Season

Jan 14, 2026 (0)

O'NEILL'S MADY HEISS goes in for a lay up against Boone Central at the Friday, Jan. 9 game.

The OHS lady Eagles started the new year right and last week they kept the ball rolling. The near-undefeated team faced off against two schools and wrapped things up quickly.

Last Friday, Jan. 9, the Eagles hosted a familiar opponent in the Boone Central Cardinals, who the girls cleared twice over last season.

The Eagles did what they always do and took immediate charge. It was one-sided from the start, with the visiting Cardinals struggling 34-19 going into halftime. A further 17-5 drop-off in the third quarter secured the home team in the top. Try as they may, the Cardinals could never get close to their opponent, and the Eagles once again overtook Boone.

Bergyn Classen owned the night with 23 points, shooting two of three three-pointers for 67% and six of 12 two-pointers for 50%, as well as four rebounds and two steals; Hannah Hilker had 15 points, four rebounds and three steals; Taylor Young had nine points, seven rebounds and one steal; Mady Heiss had eight points and two steals; Hailey Fick had five points and one rebound; Mariah Kallhoff had four points, 12 rebounds and two steals; Serena Chavez had two points; and Rylee Selby had two rebounds and one steal.

The next day, on Saturday, the girls visited Ponca to round out the week's play

The Eagles came out the gate with a fire, putting up 17 points while holding down the Indians to eight. The Eagles were held up in the second quarter when the opponent snagged it 11-10. It was back to business as usual when the visiting Eagles stole the spotlight once again from a decisive 21-13 third to sky-rocket the girls to the top. Ponca once again came back in the finale, but the damage was long past dealt.

Classen once again was the MVP with 20 points, shooting eight of 15 three-pointers for 53%, as well as 13 rebounds and one steal; Hilker was right behind with 18 points, two rebounds and one steal; Heiss had 13 points, four rebounds and two steals; Chavez had three points and two steals; Young had two points, four rebounds and one steal; Selby had two points and one rebound; Kallhoff had five rebounds and one steal; and Mia Lindsay and Fick both had two rebounds.

The lady Eagles are on a roll this year and they are well on their way to a 10 win-streak.
