The O'Neill girls volleyball team has had some back and forth games, and last week was no exception. In their first game, played Tuesday, Sept. 12, they hosted the Lutheran-Northeast Eagles and won 3-0, 25-18, 25-19 & 25-21.
The O'Neill Eagles played well, consistently scoring 25 points per set. The Lutheran-Northeast Eagles got in some good shots as well, but they were ultimately overtaken by their opposition.
Autumn Hilker led the O'Neill Eagles with 12 kills, one ace serve, 18 digs and one set assist; Aubrey Jackson 10 kills, one block and 19 digs; Olivia Young six kills, two blocks and six digs; Ashley Sidak five kills, three ace serves and two digs; Hannah Hilker two kills, one ace serve, three blocks, 12 digs and 28 set assists; Haley Schluns two kills, one ace serve, one block and 10 digs; Autumn Jackson two ace serves; and Keeley Chavez two digs.
Two days later on Sept. 14 the Eagles hosted the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays and fell 3-0, 19-25, 14-25 & 9-25.
Set one looked promising enough, with the Eagles only behind by six points. The second set only served to widen the gap, but with a mix of stellar offense and defense, it would be possible to turn it around. Set three, however, would be the Eagles lowest score of the game.
Jackson scored six kills and 15 digs; A. Hilker six kills, 11 digs and two set assists; Sidak five kills, two ace serves and three digs; Young three kills and four digs; H. Hilker one kill, five digs and 21 set assists; Schluns one kill and seven digs; Jackson one kill and five digs; Classen one kill and one dig; and Chavez six digs.
