Lady Cardinals Destroy Subdistrict Opposition

Feb 25, 2026 (0)

CARDINAL ADYSON PETERSEN keeps her focus against Santee in the girl's Subdistricts finale game.

Subdistricts were played last week and the lady Cardinals were not messing around. The girls gave it their all and soared past their opponents.

In their first match on Tuesday, Feb. 17, the Cardinals showed utter domination. Things weren't too crazy from the start, with the Cards pulling ahead by just two points. In the second quarter, things started to heat up and the girls got into the groove, putting up 18 and leaving their opponent scrambling with five.

The Cards continued to lay the pressure on to further cement their place. The Broncos had no chance and were forced to submit to their Cardinal opponents in a clean 4-0 sweep.

Gracie Williamson stole the spotlight with 27 points, shooting 12 of 22 two-pointers for 55 percent, as well as 13 rebounds and eight steals; Tatum Ickes  was runner-up with 15 points, four rebounds and two steals; Adyson Peterson had eight points, four rebounds and two steals; Cherish Williamson had three points, 10 rebounds and one steal; and Emerson Mlnarik had five rebounds and one steal.

After a short two-day break, the girls were back on the court. This time visiting Santee for Subdistricts finals.

As expected from the Cards, this game was pure destruction. It started with a 16-2 opener to put the Warriors in the ground. Adding insult to injury was the 17-5 quarter two to put the Cards up 33-7 going into half-time.

There was no hope for the Warriors' success, but they weren't willing to give up. The Cards continued to remain on top, but the Warriors started to close in a few times. By the end, it was the Cardinals who were the undisputed champions with another 4-0 win; 52-24.

Peterson was on top with 18 points, shooting four of 13 three-pointers for 31 percent and one of three two-pointers for 33 percent, as well as six rebounds and four steals; G. Williamson had 13 points and nine rebounds; Mlnarik had nine points, seven rebounds and two steals; C. Williamson had seven points and 14 rebounds; Ickes had three points and six rebounds; Olivia Bauer had two points; and Bethany Leisy had one rebound.
