Kay Kohle

Kay Kohle, age 73, and longtime resident of Stuart, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, as a result of a car accident.

Visitation was held from 3-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at the Seger Funeral Home in Stuart.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at the Stuart Community Church in Stuart with Pastor Wayne Owens officiating. Music was provided by organist, Elaine Schorn.

Pallbearers were Terry King, Ian King, Richard King, Mike Mannhalter, Shawn Angel and Tyler Newbanks.

A 2:30 p.m. graveside committal service will be  held on Thursday (today), Nov. 3, 2011, at the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Stuart. 

Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson was in charge of arrangements.

Kay was born on Dec. 1, 1937, in Murdo, SD, to Tom and Alice (Thiesen) King. She graduated from Stuart High School in 1956. She continued her education at Wayne State College where she received her teachers certificate. From there she went on to teach for two years at a country school near Rose. She was married to Harold Newbanks and later divorced. On May 25, 1970, She married Fritz Kohle. They remained happily married until his passing in August of 1993.

Kay was known to be a very hard worker. She worked at or was involved in the management of numerous diners over the years, painted houses and baby-sat many of  the communities children. Many also remember a time when she worked in Stuart at the William Krotter Company. For a little over a year ºshe had been working at the Pit Shop.

She loved to travel. She even managed to make a couple of trips to Alaska, which had been one of her dreams. She loved to garden, watch Husker football and play cards, especially cribbage and Texas Hold 'Em Poker. She was also actively involved in the Stuart Community Church and the American Legion Women's Auxiliary.

Kay would be the first to tell you that her greatest accomplishment was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished her loving relationships with her family and close friends. Her house and heart were always open for anybody that needed her.

Kay is survived by Camillia Norton and husband  Rodger  of Stuart; Larry Newbanks and wife Sherry of Gillette, WY; Paula  Coston  and husband Vic  of Maryville, MO; step-children, LeAnn Schultz of Naper, Michele Thompson and Connie Breedan, both of California, and Jolene Schaaf of Stuart; sisters, Lotus Herrington of Casper, WY, Karla Mannhalter of Murdo, SD, Trudy Henle of Gillette, WY,  Judy Martin of Olive Branch, MS, and Sherry Wheeler of Martin, SD; brothers, Kent King of Murdo, SD, and Gary King of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; four step-children and their families; and her "baby," Chubbers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Tom and Alice King; her husband, Fritz Kohle; three brothers, Leonard King, Keith King and Rex King; one sister, Bunny Meyer; and one stepson, Frank Kohle Jr.
