Roy Donald Boshart, 86, of O'Neill died Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society in Atkinson. 

Visitation was held Monday, July 11, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in O'Neill.

A celebration of life service was held Monday, July 11, 2022 at the church in O'Neill. Pastor Bob Wynn officiated. Military rites were provided by the O'Neill American Legion Simonson Post 93.

Burial was in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in O'Neill in Roy's name.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill was in charge of the arrangements.

Roy was born Oct. 27, 1935 to Edward and Minnie (Backhaus) Boshart at their rural home north of O'Neill. He attended District 92 Joy Country School through eighth grade. 

He quit high school his freshman year and continued working on the family ranch until he joined the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in April of 1954.

In Roy's youth, he broke multiple horses for his father. Throughout time, he told of his life experiences with horses, haying, trapping, fishing and black cows.

On June 30, 1957, Roy married Karen Jean Gruhn. To this union two children were born Edward Emil and Steven Roy.

Roy ranched for many years raising black angus cattle. In later years he sold McNess Feeds and eventually was John Prouty Construction's go-to man.

Roy is survived by his son Steven (Ellen) Boshart of O'Neill; four grandchildren Chandra (Dana) Kuhl of Wahoo, Tara (Zachary) Callison and Phillip (Laura) Boshart, all of O'Neill, and Lisa (Craig) Miller of Wahoo; seven great-grandchildren Mecca Kuhl, Arah Kuhl, Finley Callison, Rhett Callison, Mae Boshart, Wyatt Boshart and Grace Boshart.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Minnie Boshart, wife Karen, older brother Lester and son Edward.
