Joseph Leonard Wedige, age 61, of Atkinson, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2011, at his home.
Visitation was held on Sunday, May 15, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. at Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 16, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Atkinson. Father Michael Eckley and Father Luke Steffes officiated. Music was provided by Brenda Wedige, vocalist and Jayne Fetherston, organist.
Burial was in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Atkinson.
Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson was in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers were Mark Wiseman, Roy Schaaf, Troy Heiser, Dave Jakubowski, Shannon Benson, John Skrdla, Robert Anson and Joe Skrdla.
Joseph was born on Dec. 27, 1949, in Atkinson, to Leonard and Rose (Krobot) Wedige. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Feb. 5, 1970 in Omaha and was honorably discharged on Oct. 6, 1971, at Ft. Carson, CO. He was married to Janice Kloppenborg.
He is survived by his children, Jennifer Metschke of Chambers, Jess Wedige and his wife Heidi of O'Neill, Jerid Wedige of Lincoln and Jani Wedige of Coleridge; six grandchildren; one sister, Geraldine Irwin and her husband Jerry of Seward; and ex-wife, Janice Peregoy of Coleridge.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
