Joseph Fiala, age 88, of O'Neill, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 31, 2013, at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.

Visitation was held on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, from 5-7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill with Revs. James Netusil and  Jim Kramper officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Toni Schneider and St. Patrick's Funeral Choir.

Pallbearers were Bernard Schmit, Lamont Bordovsky, Bob Musil, Bob McClellan, Bill Pribil, Junior Young, Don Havranek and Bill Ogden.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph was born on Oct. 24, 1924, in O'Neill, to John Frank and Bernardine Loretta (Musil) Fiala. He grew up in the rural O'Neill area and attended school until the eighth grade. He served in the United States Marine Corp during WWII from Jan. 22, 1945 through Aug. 13, 1946.

He ranched his entire life on the home place where he loved raising cattle. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill.

Joseph is survived by first cousins, Helen Knox of Omaha and Helen Heese of O'Neill and several other cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary and brother, Frank.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill.
