Gardner, KS — Joseph Francis Howard, 82, of Gardner, KS, formerly of O'Neill, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2025 at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS. Cremation with a celebration of life service is planned for a future date. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Bruce Funeral Home, Inc., in Gardner, KS is in charge of the arrangements. Joseph was born in O'Neill on Sept. 12, 1942 to Lynus Adrian and Ruth Marguerite (Young) Howard. He grew up in O'Neill on a cattle ranch and graduated from St. Mary's Academy. On Aug. 6, 1966 Joe married Ardith Ann Crawford in O'Neill. He was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Reserves until 1969. Joe and Ardie moved to Gardner in 1978. He was a mail carrier in Shawnee Mission, retiring from the United States Postal Service in 2004. Joe and Ardie were “snowbirds” for 20 years traveling and making new friends across the country. Enjoying all kinds of adventures along the way. Joe is survived by his wife Ardith of the home; four children Rochelle Howard and Ann Howard, both of Gardner, KS, Thad (Joey) Howard of Newbury Park, CA and Steve (Erin) Howard of Kansas City, MO; one sister Mary Howard of Buffalo, WY; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Morris and Jerry Howard. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.brucefuneralhome.com.
