Chambers — Janet Arlene Fleek, 77, of Chambers, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk.

Private graveside services will be held at the Chambers Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill is in charge of the arrangements.

Janet was born on Aug. 7, 1945 in Atkinson, to Bernard and Doris (Reiselt) Rickard. She attended Bartlett Public Schools through junior high before graduating from Chambers High School in 1963. During her time in high school, Janet played volleyball and was a cheerleader. She then went on to attend the Grand Island College of Business to be a secretary.  

Janet worked for many years as a social worker for the DHHS office, retiring in the mid 2000s.

Janet met Edwin Fleek through his sister Mary, and the two were later married on June 1, 1965 in Lake Andes, SD. To this union, three children were born Ryan, Kurt and Darci. They made their home in Chambers. 

Janet was a Sunday School teacher at the Chambers Memorial Baptist Church, the church secretary and also the secretary of the Chambers Alumni Association. 

She loved her flowers and her yard, to knit and crochet, to scrapbook and put together jigsaw puzzles and was a great cook. Janet loved Husker volleyball and football and the NBA. She loved to read, cats and holidays - especially Thanksgiving.

Janet is survived by her husband of 57 years Ed Fleek; three children Ryan (Cari) Fleek of Elk Point, SD, Kurt (Jona) Fleek of Kearney and Darci (Russell) Macklem of Chambers; nine grandchildren Jon Fleek, Joshua (Sarah) Fleek, Rachel Fleek, Cooper Fleek, Meshya Moschenross, Molly Fleek, Cole (Natasha) Macklem, Dylan (Haley Thompson) Macklem and Keithan Coufal; two great-grandchildren Paislee Fleek and Cheyenne Enquist; six siblings Verlin (Pat) Rickard of Dorchester, Gary Rickard of O'Neill, Warren (Peg) Rickard of Atkinson, Glenda (Dale) Mudloff of O'Neill, Vicki (Bill) Tomjack of Chambers and Darla (Rick) Cox of Lincoln; one sister-in-law Shelley Rickard of Lake Havasu City, AZ; and many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Doris Rickard; three unborn children; and three brothers Alan Rickard, Martin Rickard and Marvin Rickard.
