James "Jim" Lester Sorrells, 74, of O'Neill, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023 at Faith Community Church in O'Neill. Rev. Paul Harder will officiate.

Burial will be in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill with military rites provided by the O'Neill American Legion Simonson Post 93.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

James was born on July 12, 1948 to TJ and Iola (Cadwell) Sorrells in Pawnee City. He grew up in Lincoln and attended Lincoln Northeast High School.  

Jim enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1966 during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in April of 1968.

Jim married Sharon Pritchett in Lincoln in 1968. To this union three children were born Shannon, Michile and Jennifer. The couple later adopted three more children Monte, Cody and Raelynn. The couple made their home in O'Neill where Jim worked for O'Neill Auto Supply for over 20 years. He then worked for almost 25 years for Elkhorn River Farms, until he retired in 2017.

Jim loved to hunt, fish and spend time outdoors. He was also pretty good at roller skating and bowling. Jim was an avid sports fan, especially of the Huskers and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a good singer and a dog lover - especially his dog Squirt.  

Jim was a member of the O'Neill American Legion Post 93 and VFW Post 926.

Jim is survived by his six children Shannon (Zane) Pease of Stuart, Michile Sorrells of O'Neill, Monte Sorrells of Norfolk, Cody Sorrells of Spencer, Raelynn Sorrells of Lincoln and Rhonda Bruno of Nevada; eight grandchildren Shaleena (Sam) Elsberry, Cole Pease, Grant Pease, Starrchile Davis, Treyvon Sorrells, Andrik Sorrells, Zeyden Holtz, Hazel Holtz; special friend Nancy Bethune of O'Neill; her three children Jamie (Dawn) Bethune and family of Onawa, Iowa, Scott (Jeneѐ) Bethune and family of Shelby and Nicholas (Leah) Bethune and family of Lincoln; two sisters Cherry Herman and Diane Chatterton, both of Lincoln; and many foster children, nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents TJ (Melba) Sorrells and Iola 

(Maurise) Moser, one daughter Jennifer Sorrells in 2017, one brother Rick Sorrells, one brother-in-law Paul Chatterton and one nephew Adam Herman.
