May 9, 2024 The Holt County Weed Board met in regular session. This meeting publicized pursuant to Section 84-1411 R.R.S, 1943 Notice of meeting given in advance thereof by publication in paper as shown by Affidavit of Publication on April 25th, 2024, in the Holt County Independent. John Hammerlun convened the meeting at 7:00 P.M. and informed the public of the location of the Open Meeting Poster. Present: Dan Drueke, Tom Welsh, Dan Pribil, Kevin DeKay, John Hammerlun, Supervisor Dustin Breiner and Weed Superintendent William Babutzke. Minutes Approved: Dan Drueke made a motion to approve the minutes and Tom Welsh seconded. All approved Claims Approved: Dan Pribil made a motion to approve the claims and Kevin DeKay seconded. All approved. Dustin Breiner made a motion to preapprove KBRX billing not yet arrived, Tom Welsh seconded. All approved. Old Business: Tin for the shop is here and waiting on the ridge cap. Bill will visit with the contractor Dan Ruda to see if the material can be billed directly to the county. New Business: Inspections, not many have been done yet. Spurge is starting to bloom. Summer help Patrick Russell was hired, and Byron Wilson has returned. Holt County applied for a $10,000.00 grant from Nebraska Department of Agriculture. This is to follow up on spraying the Niobrara River. Holt County should find out in mid-June if we will receive the grant. Leafy Spurge Working Task Force will meet in Chadron on June 24th and 25th of this year. Annual Conference and Field Day. Information on the following list of twelve noxious weeds found in Nebraska can be located at the neweed.org website with sufficient information on each noxious weed. Canada Thistle, Musk Thistle, Plumeless Thistle, Purple Loosestrife, Spotted Knapweed, Diffuse Knapweed, Saltcedar, Phragmites, Giant Knotweed, Japanese Knotweed, Sericea Lespedeza, Leafy Spurge. Next meeting is June 13th, 2024, at 7:00 pm at the Holt County Weed Office. Dan Pribil made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Kevin DeKay seconded. All approved. Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm.
