Harry A. Schlote
Harry August Schlote, age 83, of Plainview, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Creighton Hospital surrounded by his family.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Ashburn Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday (today), May 5, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church. Pastor Jonathan Meraz will officiate.
Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, Anthony Hardisty, Jeremiah Lubke, Joshua Lubke, Adam Hardisty, Paul Bretschneider, Jarrett Brookhouser and Brock Bretschneider.
Honorary pallbears are his granddaughters JoAnn Steiger, Heidi Widick, Mandy Blickenstaff, Amy Volk, Melissa Wenger and Katelynn Warren.
Harry August Schlote was born on Oct. 17, 1927, to George and Marie (Luedke) Schlote in Plainview. He was baptized on Nov. 13, 1927, and was confirmed March 29, 1942, at Zion Lutheran Church. He attended rural school, Zion Lutheran, and graduated from Plainview High School. Harry was inducted in the Army on March 29, 1951, and served in the Korean Conflict serving the forward area the entire time with the 79th Engineers. On Aug. 26, 1951, he was united in marriage to Verna Peters at Zion Lutheran in Plainview. To this union four daughters were born. His family life he enjoyed farming.
Harry and Verna enjoyed including several overseas visits, flying, camping, boating, waterskiing, motorcycling and softball. They also enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s activities.
Cherishing his memory are his wife of 59 years; four daughters, Lois Lubke of Plainview, Joan and Sterling Hardisty of Athol, KS, Sue and Gary Bretschneider of Norfolk and Sheryl and David Brookhouser of Junction City, KS; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Hilda Brown of Plainview, Helen Dehning of Seward, Hazel and Gerald Kumm of Osmond and Hattie and Milford Kumm of Osmond; sisters-in-law, Gladys Schlote of Plainview and Loretta Schlote of Plainview; and brothers-in-law, Owen and Fern Parkinson of Grand Island.
He is preceeded in death by his parents, George and Marie Schlote; brothers, Herman and Harvey Schlote; one grandson, Blake Brookhouser; and great-granddaughter, Hannah Hardisty.
