Elvera Fluckey, age 92, of Chambers, passed away Monday morning, April 15, 2013, at the Golden LivingCenter in O'Neill.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral service at 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with Rev. Mike Durre officiating. Music provided by organist, Deb Frederick and soloist, Duane Christiansen.
Pallbearers were Ed Fluckey, Alan Fluckey, Larry Fluckey, Calvin Fluckey, Ron McDermott, Vince Fluckey, Casey Cox, Dustin Fluckey and Eric Fluckey.
Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Gordon Fluckey.
Burial was in the Chambers Cemetery in Chambers.
Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill was in charge of arrangements.
Elsie Elvera Sorensen was born on Dec. 5, 1920, at Pilger to Soren Peter and Elsie Katherine (Nissen) Sorensen. They moved to Chambers in March of 1927 where she attended Valley Center School and Medcalf District Country School. She attended Chambers High School for four years graduating in 1938.
After graduating she worked in private homes, restaurants and grocery stores until marrying Loy L. Fluckey on Oct. 16, 1945. She and Loy lived on the farm four miles south of Chambers for 16 years before moving into Chambers in 1962.
Elvera's hobbies were reading, baking, canning, sewing quilts, growing a garden and flowers, especially roses. She wrote the Chambers news for the Holt County Independent for over 25 years and several years for the Norfolk Daily News.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 38 years. She was also known for her tasty fried chicken dinners and she always had a smile for everyone.
Elvera is survived by her children: Ed Fluckey of Lincoln, Carol (Ron) McDermott of Alliance, Alan Fluckey and friend Sue Chadwick of Fort Calhoun, Larry (Kay) Fluckey of Kearney and Calvin (Cindy) Fluckey of Plainview; grandchildren: Rhonda (Casey) Cox of Alliance, Doug McDermott of Santa Ana, CA, Rebecca (Brian) Wilke of Omaha, Jennifer Walls of Norfolk, Julie (Aaron) Fletcher of Hershey, Dustin (Alice) Fluckey of Highlands Ranch, CO, Vincent (Melissa) Fluckey of Sioux Falls, SD, and Eric Fluckey of Baltimore, MD; great-grandchildren: Jesie Kohl of Ancohrage, AK, Josh Kohl of Norfolk, Allison McDermott of Santa Ana, CA, Courtney Cox of Alliance, Alex and Mia Wilke of Omaha and Logan and Noah Fletcher; step-grandson, Cody Hunter; brother-in-law Gordon Fluckey of Hastings; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Wilkening of Plattsmouth and Betty Sorensen of California and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Loy Fluckey; her parents; one brother, Arnold Sorensen; one grandson, Brian McDermott and one great-grandson, Joel Fletcher.
Memorials may be made to the Chambers American Legion Auxiliary or to the Chambers United Methodist Church for stained glass windows.
