This season has been a tough one for the boys, even entering the Christmas break downed by Wayne. But the Eagles had enough Monday, Dec. 29 and taught Boyd County not to mess with them. Kicking things off were the Eagles, who took an early lead by five points. The boys kicked things into high gear in the second quarter, giving the Spartans a beating they won't soon forget. In the aftermath of the beginning half, the Eagles easily pulled ahead 35-13. They continued to lay the pressure on, keeping the visitors scrambling the whole time. When the end was in sight, the Eagles reigned the uncontested champions for their second victory of the season. Braxen Eichelberger scored big with 21 points, four rebounds and two steals; Ryder Kelly had 18 points, two rebounds and two assists; Turner Heiss had 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals; Porter Mathews had six points and 12 rebounds; Maguire Heiss had five points and two rebounds; Nate Brown had three points, two rebounds and two steals; Zachery Buller had three points and one rebound; Brock Latzel had two points and two rebounds; Itsuki Inoue had two points; Colten Shoemaker had one point and one rebound; Tate Diediker had two rebounds. And Cooper Mckay had one rebound and one steal. OHS 13 22 22 19 76 BCHS 8 5 17 15 45 With no time to waste, the boys held another competition the following day against St. Paul. It was a decent start for the Eagles, trailing by just one in the opening, bringing them close to the opponent. The story changed in the subsequent quarter, with the Wildcats pushing ahead 20-9 to crush the Eagles' hopes. An additional two-point advantage in the third only furthered the gap between the teams. It was all but over at this point for the Eagles, but they were not about to give up completely. While the attempt was valiant, the Eagles were still overpowered and forced to accept defeat for the night. Turner Heiss took charge this match with 16 points and seven rebounds; Kelly had 13 points, two rebounds and one steal; Eichelberger had eight points, four rebounds and two steals; Mathews had four points and three rebounds; M. Heiss and Shoemaker both had two points and one rebound; and Brown had one rebound. OHS 14 9 11 11 45 SPHS 15 20 9 15 59 Getting right into the new year, the Eagles invited Crofton to the court. The Warriors pulled ahead in the opening, leaving the Eagles to play catch-up early on. The boys answered the call of duty and managed to even the playing field in the second stanza. It was a constant back-and-forth, further evidenced by the Warriors claiming the third 11-10. With the game still easily up for grabs, the Eagles gave it their all, but the visitors wouldn't let up either. When all was said and done, the Crofton players had once again nudged the Eagles from the top spot. Turner Heiss made a huge effort with 23 points, eight rebounds and one steal; Eichelberger had 11 points, three rebounds and three steals; Mathews had five points, three rebounds and one steal; Brown had four points, two rebounds and one steal; Kelly had three points; M. Heiss had one points, one rebound and two steals; and Buller and Shoemaker both had two points. OHS 7 15 10 15 47 CHS 10 12 11 16 49 With the unfortunate start to the 2026 year, the boys will have another chance to bring things around when they face Boone Central this Friday.
