Katie Morrow 2011 Friday, September 10th, the O'Neill Eagles competed at the Norfolk Catholic Cross Country Invitational. There were sixteen schools that competed at the meet.
The Lady Eagles placed 9th in the varsity division. Sixty-nine high school girls competed in the meet. Leading the Eagles again was Ashley Dickau placing 16th. Rest of the team was: Yoselin Cayax 47th, Ally Sedlacek 46th, Nahomi Sunum 50th, Lauryn Dusatko 53rd, and Jace Gregory 66th.
“It was the hottest day of the week. I thought we ran well. Mentally, we need to understand that it's going to get uncomfortable in the middle of the race,” said Coach Hilker.
The boys team finished 9th in the varsity division and 4th in the junior varsity division. Leading the Eagles were two seniors: Brady Thompson 14th and Ty Rainforth 26th. Rest of the varsity team was: Mikah Raymond 44th, Kyler Dean 65th, and John Alden 77th.
The junior varsity team was led by freshman Trevor Alder who placed 7th. Other team members were Gus Laible 14th, Carter Hickey 20th, Brayden Romesser 30th, Jairo Lazo 47th, and Caleb Laursen 49th.
“The boys competed today. They gave really good effort. We need to keep improving. Next week will be the first week all the boys will be be running. It will be fun to see what they can do,” commented Hilker.
In the junior high division, the girls team placed 4th. Leading the and medaling was Taya Dickau 9th. The team also included Elle Hoffman 20th, Savannah Gallagher 34th, Molly Corkle 39th, Madisyn Shoemaker 64th, Hailey Romesser 67th, Grace Mitchell 85th, Kasanndra Espinoza 85th, and Addie Sigler 100th.
The boys junior high team placed 10th. The team consisted of Ethan Sukup 56th, Logan Bradshaw 62nd, Eden Cabol 69th, Luke Wilson 74th, Arya Chaudhari 76th, Sawyer Strong 80th, Lane Hoefer 85th, Cooper Cole 90th, Isaac Sunum 93rd, Liam Kennedy 97th, Zach Buller 98th, and Caleb Asche 106th.
Friday, September 17th, the O'Neill Eagles host their own invitational. The first race will start at 3:30 at the O'Neill Country Club.
