Last week the Eagle boys had their minds occupied with some high-stake ball games.

Last Friday, the boys hosted Battle Creek and it appeared to be an even match-up.

The Eagles had a perfect start, pulling ahead 25-17 to push the Braves back. Keeping things interesting, the visitors snapped back 11-5 in the second quarter to bring the game to 30-28 still to the Eagles.

With their advantage slipping, the Eagles kicked it into high gear and once again laid the smack-down on their opponent 16-10. With the curtain closing quickly, the Braves made one final push to bring it to them. They did manage to overcome the hosts in the fourth, but overall the Eagles' lead was too great and the match ended 54-50 to the home team.

Turner Heiss led the offensive with 17 points, sinking seven of 10 two-pointers for 70 percent, as well as nine rebounds and one steal; Porter Mathews had 11 points, 12 rebounds and two steals; Nate Brown had seven points, two rebounds and two steals; Maguire Heiss had six points, three rebounds and one steal; Ryder Kelly had six points; Braxen Eichelberger had five points, three rebounds and one steal; Cooper Mckay and Colten Shoemaker both had one point each; and Cameron Laursen had four rebounds.

Three days later, on Monday, the boys prepared for their first Subdistricts match-up, being 12-10 Madison.

The Eagles came out with a fire under them in this game. They pulled ahead 12 points in the opener, and followed it up with a further three points going into half.

Another big play from the Eagles gave them another huge 12-point boost. Now all the boys had to do was play keep-away, but the Dragons wouldn't make it easy. They focused in and upgraded their score 21-13 in the finale. The opportunity for comebacks came too little too late, and the Eagles took it 61-41.

Mathews led this time with 19 points, shooting one three-pointer for 100 percent and seven of nine two-pointers for 78 percent, as well as 13 rebounds and one steal; Heiss had 12 points and two rebounds; Eichelberger had 11 points and two steals; Heiss had 10 points, eight rebounds and one steal; Laursen had five points and two rebounds; Kelly had four points and one rebound; Mckay and Shoemaker had three rebounds;Brown had two rebounds; Ryker Sudbeck had one rebound; and Zachery Buller and Brock Latzel both had one steal each.
