Eagle Girls Downed In First Round of Mid - State Tourney

Feb 8, 2023 (0)

The OHS girls have been struggling to keep up this season, and this week is no exception.

Last week's first game was against the Boone Central Cardinals, played on Monday, January 30, as part of the Mid-State Conference Tournament.

Things got off to a rocky start for the Eagles, as they were only able to put up 10 points in the start, where the Cardinals put up 18. The Eagles started to get to get on the right track when, in second quarter, they scored 11 and held the Cougars to 10.

The Eagles didn't start so great, but they still had plenty of time to turn things around. Going into third quarter, however, the Cardinals took the spotlight and beat the Eagles 13-11. The final quarter was the final nail in the coffin for the Eagles, though. The Cougars mopped the floor with them 13-5.

Presley Heiss leads the Eagles with 10 points, shooting one of one three-pointers for 100 percent and two of five two-pointers for 40 percent, as well as three rebounds; Emma Smith and Olivia Young both had eight points and three rebounds each; Lauryn Dusatko seven points and eight rebounds; Bergyn Classen two points and one rebound; Autumn Hilker one point and two rebounds; Rylee Selby one point; and Serena Chavez one rebound.

One week later the girls played the Elkhorn Valley Falcons. Unfortunately for the Eagles, this match didn't go any better than the first.

Right from the start, things weren't looking too hot for the Eagles. By the time second quarter was over, the Eagles were already down 19-28.

This wasn't a guaranteed loss at this point, but third quarter would be enough to do the Eagles in. The Falcons easily overpowered the Eagles in the set, 14-3. Fourth quarter was no help for the Eagles either. In the end, the Falcons stomped the Eagles with over twice the amount of points.

Leading the Eagle pack was Dusatko with seven points, shooting three of eight two-pointers for 38 percent, as well as five rebounds; Smith had six points and five rebounds; Young five points and two rebounds; Ashley Sidak two points and five rebounds; Heiss and Elly Stearns both two points and one rebound each; Selby two points; Classen three rebounds; and Brena Gdanitz
