Last week the O'Neill Eagles competed at Pierce in the C-3 District Cross Country Meet.

Twelve Schools competed at the meet. The top 15 individuals and top three teams qualify for the state championship.

The Lady Eagles competed and placed eighth as a team. Leading the Eagles was sophomore Ashley Dickau, who placed 10th to qualify as an individual.

Also competing in the meet for the Eagles were Yoselin Cayax placing 37th, Nahomi Sunum 40th, Ally Sedlacek 48th, Bethany Owens 49th and Lauren Dusatko 56th.

“I am proud of the girls team. They competed hard. Ashley is now a two-time state qualifier. I really think she will run her best time at the state meet,” said Hilker.

The boys team placed fourth overall and was only four points away from qualifying for state as a team. Brady Thompson placed fifth overall as an individual and qualified to compete in Kearney at the state meet. Ty Rainforth placed 17th, Kullen Cartella 20th, Trevor Alder 31st, Mikah Raymond 37th and Gus Laible 65th.

“The boys competed hard and ran their fastest times of the year. It's not how they wanted to end the season, but they gave great effort. Brady being a four-time state qualifier has the ability to run really well at state,” said Hilker.

Friday, October 22nd Ashley Dickau and Brady Thompson will compete in the NSAA State Cross Country Championships held in Kearney. Ashley will compete in the Class C girls race at 12:30 p.m. and Brady will compete in the Class C boys race at 1:30 p.m. The meet is held at the Kearney Country Club.
