Donna Zidko

Lincoln — Donna Zidko, 88, of Lincoln, formerly of Spencer, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Spencer. Rev. Glen Stahlecker will officiate.

A private family burial will be held in National Cemetery in Spencer.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Brockhaus Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of the arrangements.

Donna was born Feb. 7, 1934, in Belvidere, SD to Dave and Elsie Heaton. She grew up there and went to school there until she graduated and moved to Minneapolis, MN. 

Donna earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Minnesota and a doctorate from the University of South Dakota. 

Donna was a champion of education for all of her high school students at Washington High in Sioux Falls, SD, as well as at Spencer High School. She moved to Spencer in 1973 and lived there until 2019. 

Donna married Charles Zidko on June 4, 1976. In addition to her love of teaching she was always a supportive wife to her husband Charles and worked in his dental office by his side for many years. 

After Charles passed away in 2019, Donna moved to the Legacy in Lincoln to be near her daughter Paula and her family.  

Donna was an accomplished pianist and could play by ear. She also enjoyed playing pitch, going on country drives, listening to classical music and watching Husker volleyball and basketball.

  She will be missed by her family, many cousins and numerous friends.

Donna is survived by her daughter Paula (Sven) Brandt; four grandchildren Samantha, Christian, Hanna and Nick, all of Lincoln; and one son David of Sidney.
