Omaha — Donald "Duck" Dean Moore, 85, of Omaha, formerly of Atkinson, died peacefully at home on Friday, June 5, 2026 surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.

In accordance with Don's wishes, no formal services will be held.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Don was born on March 16, 1941, in Atkinson, to Gerald and Geraldine Moore. Throughout his life, he built a reputation as a hardworking, dependable man whose character was defined by loyalty, generosity and quiet strength.

For much of his career, Don operated heavy machinery, first with Hobbs Construction and later with Roloff. He was deeply passionate about his work and took great pride in the relationships he built throughout the years. While he was a man of few words, anyone who asked him about construction or heavy equipment quickly learned that he could talk for hours about a career he truly loved.

Above all else, Don was devoted to his family. He shared a remarkable love story with his wife Beverly Louise Moore, whom he had known for most of her life. Together, they built a life rooted in commitment, hard work and unconditional love. Don worked tirelessly to provide for his family while Beverly cared for their home and children. Their bond endured throughout their lives, and even after Beverly's passing on Dec. 7, 2021, his eyes would light up whenever he spoke about her. She remained the love of his life.

Don found joy in life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed fishing trips to Lake Okoboji with his son, searching local thrift stores with his daughter for hidden treasures, and spending quiet afternoons sitting on his front porch with his beloved dog Coco.

He was a proud and devoted grandfather to his two granddaughters and shared close, loving relationships with them throughout their lives. His generosity knew few limits, and he was always willing to lend a hand to those he loved. Though he rarely spoke at length, when Don did speak, people listened. His words carried weight because they came from a man who lived by example.

Many family members and close friends will forever remember hearing his favorite phrase: "I love you buddy." It was a simple expression that perfectly reflected the warmth, affection and loyalty he shared with those closest to him.

Don leaves behind a legacy of hard work, unwavering devotion to family, enduring friendships and a love that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he was a man of few words, the example he set and the love he shared spoke volumes.

Don is survived by his children, Mark Moore (Angela Berg) and Kimberly Kay Benak, his grandchildren Kelsey Victor (John Victor) and Jessica Moore, his brother Jerry Moore, his brother-in-law Gary Herrera along with many extended family members, lifelong friends and those whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Beverly Louise Moore, his parents Gerald and Geraldine Moore, his brother Leon Moore and his sister Margaret Moore.
