Donald "Don" Dean Hahlbeck, 82, of O'Neill, died Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. Memorial visitation was held Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill. Memorial services will be held Thursday, April 9, 2026 at the mortuary in O'Neill. Rev. Mike Durre will officiate. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation. Donald was born to Clifford and Helen (Barr) Hahlbeck on Dec. 27, 1943 in Ewing. He was one of seven siblings. Don graduated from Ewing High School in 1962. Enlisted in the Armed Forces of The United States in June 1963 and was a PVT (E-2) (P) Tank Driver in the Army. Even though his military career was short and ended with an honorable discharge, he loved the Military and was very proud to be a part of it. Following his honorable discharge, Don moved to O'Neill, working at R.E.A. for a time along with several other places. Don then moved to Nampa, Idaho, to start his long-time career as The Director of Nampa Housing Authority. He and his wife Diana were also owners/brokers of Meyers Real Estate before moving back to O'Neill in 1999 to be closer to Don's children. Once back in O'Neill, Don was the manager of the newly built Holiday Inn until his retirement. He served as Holt County Supervisor from 2002-2020. Don took great pride in representing Holt County. Don and his wife Diana wintered in Rockport, Texas and moved there full-time in 2022. After 44 years of marriage, Diana passed on Feb. 13, 2025. Don then moved back to O'Neill to live with his daughter Darcy and her husband Scott. Don was a Past Commander and member of the American Legion Simonson Post 93. Don loved fishing, camping, bowling and softball. Don is survived by his four children Darcy (Scott) Poese of O'Neill, Doug (Carol) Hahlbeck of Ewing, Heath Hahlbeck (Stephanie Keetle) of Lake Andes, SD, and Kelly Hahlbeck of O'Neill; three stepchildren John (Vanessa) Burril, Allen Burril and Dustin Barton, all of Nampa, Idaho; nine grandchildren Brandon Poese, Michael Poese, Brian Hahlbeck, Jason Hahlbeck, Alyssia Hahlbeck, Justin Hahlbeck, Ty Hahlbeck, Katie Hahlbeck and Joey Burril; two brothers Jerry Hahlbeck and Butch (Kathy) Hahlbeck; three sisters Cheri (Gary) Joslyn, Kay Hahlbeck and Pat Hahlbeck; and two sisters-in-law Brenda (Michael) Castle and Pam Kubik. He was preceeded in death by his wife, parents and one brother Leon Hahlbeck.
