Albion — Dennis "DW"  David Walters, 80, of Albion, died Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Visitation was held Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at the United Methodist Church in Albion.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the church in Albion. Pastor Lynde Linde will officiate.

Following the service, there will be a procession to the Albion Country Club. Participants are asked to drive their golf carts if they can. Lunch will be served and there will be time to celebrate and remember DW's life.

Burial will be held at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.

Memorials may be made to the family and will be used for the boys and girls golf program at the school.

Levander Funeral Home in Albion is in charge of the arrangements.

Dennis, son of Arthur C. and Etha M. (Adams) Walters, was born on March 6, 1943, in Norfolk. He was baptized and confirmed at Chambers Methodist Church in Chambers. Dennis attended Chambers High School and graduated with the class of 1961. He then went to Wayne State College and graduated in 1966 with his bachelor's in teaching. 

In 1967 Dennis married Kay Hahlbeck in South Dakota. The two made their home in Falls City. 

Later he married Diane Hitt in 1977 in Boise, Idaho. The couple lived in Idaho from 1977 until they moved to Albion in 1981. 

Dennis taught at Boone Central High School as an industrial arts teacher and drivers education instructor. He coached boys and girls golf, football and wrestling for 45 years. 

Dennis was a member of the Men's Golf Committee, Nebraska Coaches' Association, President of the Idaho Jaycees, Secretary of the Bowling League and President of the Albion Country Club Board of Directors. 

Dennis enjoyed coaching, golfing, fishing and being surrounded by his loving family. Some of his fondest memories were winning state championships, receiving the 45 years of coaching award and going on cruises with his wife Diane. 

He will be remembered for his persistence in never quitting and the knowledge he passed down not only to his children, but to the children he taught and coached over the years. 

Dennis is survived by his wife Diane Walters of Albion; six daughters Anne Bloxham of Nampa, Idaho, Shari (Craig) LeNoue of Barnsville, MN, Shawn Walters of Little Elm, Texas, Kristy (Steve) Reopelle of Spring Branch, Texas, Jennifer Walters of Albion and Cindy Stephens of Kuna, Idaho; two sisters Margene (John) Arensberg of Omaha and Clo (Bruce) Swihart of Grand Island; 10 grandsons Chandler Walters of Little Elm, Texas, Caleb Walters of Lincoln, Jonah LeNoue of Barnesville, MN, Kaden Stephens and Adam Rine, both of Kuna, Idaho, Nick LeNoue of Barnesville, MN, Dana LeNoue of Moorhead, MN, Mark LeNoue of Barnesville, MN, Ryan LeNoue of Moorhead, MN and  Lynn LeNoue of Barnesville, MN; one granddaughter Kiley Jo Reopelle of Spring Branch, Texas; three great-grandchildren Cameron Walters of Little Elm, Texas, Isabella and Easton LeNoue of Barnesville, MN; as well many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.
