Belle Plaine, KS — Darrol Lynn Thompson, 73, of Belle Plaine, KS, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023 at his home in Belle Plaine, KS. A memorial service will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023 at the Derby Library in Derby, KS. A private burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Ascension Hospice in Darrol's name or to the family for future designation. Smith Family Mortuaries in Derby, KS is in charge of the arrangements. Darrol was born on May 22, 1950 to Lyle and Hazel (Lubnow) Thompson in Berlin, WI. He passed away on Oct. 26, 2023 in his home in Belle Plaine, KS with his family near him. Darrol was the proud father of Aleisha Ann-Marie and foster father to Jason Patrick, Vincent Edward and Jamie Janel. He made his choice to have God as his Savior and friend as a child and never wavered. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, growing potatoes and corn. He was a talented woodworker spending many hours in his shop. Darrol adored his time with his children: learning to ride a bike, putting out and picking up irrigation pipes, computer fun, floor play time, cuddles, doing complicated puzzles, playing Skip-Bo, reading them books, going to meetings and conventions, weekends in Omaha, Henry Dorley Zoo and meals out. He was a very unselfish man. Darrol was an adored husband for 46 years and 10 months. They shared open communication and a deep respect for one another. Frequent illnesses were common, but his care for his wife and children were never neglected. He will be forever missed. Darrol is survived by his wife Debbie Lynn; one daughter Aleisha Ann-Marie; two brothers Darwin (Elaine) and Marty; two brothers- in-law David (Pat) and Ken (Donna); eight nephews and niece Bryan(Nadine), Alyssa(Jeremy),Michael, Mark(Sloan), Tom(Diana), Matt, Michael(Tracie) and David(Allison); and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Lyle George Thompson and Hazel Marie (Lubnow) Thompson and one sister-in-law Marlene Ann (Cowell)Connor.
