Darold H. Werkmeister, 95, of O'Neill, died Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Accura HealthCare in O'Neill.

No public services are scheduled.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Darold H. was born Dec. 20, 1930 in Winner, SD to Harold and Clara (Breding) Werkmeister. The family moved from Keya Paha, SD to a farm/ranch south of Ewing in 1941.

Darold attended a rural elementary school, then graduated from Wheeler County High School, in Bartlett, in 1948.

After graduation Darold began farming. He purchased a farm northeast of Neligh in 1966 where he raised livestock and farmed corn. He installed one of the first center pivots in the area in 1967/'68. He retired in 1996.

Darold married Laurel Foster in Basset on Nov. 17, 2000. They lived in Ord and O'Neill. 

Through the years, Darold enjoyed fishing and collecting a variety of things like guns, marbles and knives.

Darold is survived by his sister Judy Bixby of Los Cruses, NM, sister-in-law JuLee Werkmeister of Yankton, SD, three nieces and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Laurel and two brothers Marvin (Ginny) and Donald.
