Dalton was born on May 4, 2005 in O'Neill to Erica Van Meter. She later married Jason Alder and he adopted Dalton.

Dalton attended St. Mary's Catholic Schools where he excelled in both academics and sports. He enjoyed school. He was a member of the National Honor Society and was recently crowned Prince of the Snowball Dance. Outside of school, sports were Dalton's Life.

Dalton's love of sports was apparent in all he did, from playing to watching games. Dalton's favorite NFL team was the Dallas Cowboys and his favorite MLB team was the Kansas City Royals. You would often see Dalton with a baseball in his hands or see him shooting hoops on the basketball court. He recently broke the single-game three-point record at St. Mary's. Dalton was also a mentor to younger children, as he helped coach Little Cards Basketball.

Being a jokester by habit was something Dalton was known for and something that will leave a substantial void in many lives – especially his grandmother.

Dalton is survived by his parents Jason and Erica Alder of Emmet; two siblings Jason (Alisson Lahaie) Alder of Meadow Grove and Kody Alder of O'Neill; his girlfriend Jadyn Eby of O'Neill; grandparents Darrell and Connie Van Meter and Dan and Connie Alder, all of O'Neill; four aunts and uncles Chris (Kelly) Alder of O'Neill, Michelle (Paul) Mangus of Fullerton, Brian (Coleen) Van Meter of Atkinson and Lanette (Brad) Kingery of Nebraska City; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents William and Lucile Alder, Dean and Delilah Frank, Coy and Helen Van Meter and Art and Dolores Torson.
