Cory was born on Feb. 27, 1980 in Omaha to Gary and Margaret "Peg" (Martin) Wettlaufer. He attended St Mary's Catholic Schools and graduated from O'Neill Public School in 1998, where he excelled at wrestling and shenanigans.

After high school, he attended Northeast Community College for one semester before enlisting in the United States Navy as a corpsman. He was medically discharged in February of 2000.

He then spent a year in Kansas City working with his friends on a survey crew. After that job ended, Cory returned to O'Neill for a while.

He had a rambling soul, and spent time in Kearney, Lincoln, Omaha, California, Chicago and Kansas City again. In 2016, his motorcycle travels took him to Nashville, TN where he lived the rest of his life.

Cory loved to travel with his motorcycles, to spend time at the river, to be around music, to cook and to tell stories - usually while holding a red bull and a cigarette.

Cory is survived by his parents Gary and Peg Wettlaufer of O'Neill; three siblings Natalie Nanfito of Kearney, Cortney (Jason) Williams of Utica and Crystal (Ryan) Walters of Chambers; seven nieces and nephews Ashley (Jeff) Hoppenstedt, Terra Nanfito, Heather Nanfito, Bella Lichti, Claire Walters, Nash Walters and Lilly Williams; two great-nephews Everett and Avery Hoppenstedt; one uncle Richard (Carol) Martin of Lincoln; one aunt Cathie (Garry) Eacker of Scottsdale, AZ; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Gerald and Mary Lou Wettlaufer and Don and Melcina Martin.
