CHAMBERS BOARD 

OF EDUCATION

REGULAR BOARD MEETING

A meeting of the Board of Education of Chambers Public Schools was convened in open and public session on February 17, 2025, in Room 1 at Chambers Public Schools, 201 S. A Street, Chambers, Nebraska. The roll was called, and the following Board members were present: Terry Kamphaus, Jamie Tomjack, Monte Metschke, Amy Scott, and Jon Sladek. Also present was Frank Jesse, Superintendent.

Notice of the meeting was given in advance by publication on the Chambers Public School's website on February 10, 2025, and thereafter in the Holt County Independent and Sandhills Ties on February 12, 2025. Notice of this meeting was given in advance to all members of the Board of Education. Availability of the agenda was communicated in the publicized notice and a current copy of the agenda was maintained as stated in the publicized notice. All proceedings of the Board of Education, except as may be hereinafter noted, were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public. 

The meeting was called to order by President Terry Kamphaus at 7:00pm. Motion by Jamie Tomjack, seconded by Jon Sladek to excuse the absence of Brady Dexter. Motion carried, 5-0. Aye: Kamphaus, Metschke, Scott, Sladek, Tomjack. Nay: 0. Brady Dexter absent.

Announcement of Open 

Meetings Act Posting

At the beginning of this meeting, the Chair announced and informed the public that a current copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted on the west wall of Room 1.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Motion by Monte Metschke, seconded by Jamie Tomjack, to approve the agenda. Motion carried, 5-0. Aye: Kamphaus, Metschke, Scott, Sladek, Tomjack. Nay: 0. Brady Dexter absent.

Consent Agenda          

Motion by Jamie Tomjack, seconded by Monte Metschke, to approve all items on the consent agenda as provided. After discussion and roll call vote the motion carried, 5-0. Aye: Kamphaus, Metschke, Scott, Sladek, Tomjack. Nay: 0. Brady Dexter absent.

Negotiations Committee

New Business

A. Nick Flood from JWood Sports Flooring and Raimond Wojtalewicz from RSW Floors and More gave presentations on the new gym floor.

B. Motion by Jamie Tomjack, seconded by Jon Sladek to approve gym floor bid from JWood Sports Flooring on contingency to increase warranty to 5 years if able, anchors and electrician to supply 3-phase power. Motion carried, 5-0. Aye: Kamphaus, Metschke, Scott, Sladek, Tomjack. Nay: 0. Brady Dexter absent. 

C. Motion by Jon Sladek, seconded by Jamie Tomjack to approve contract for Elli Metschke for 2025-2026 staffing needs. Motion carried, 4-0. Aye: Kamphaus, Scott, Sladek, Tomjack. Nay: 0. Monte Metschke abstained. Brady Dexter absent.

D. Motion by Amy Scott, seconded by Jamie Tomjack to approve negotiations for 2025-2026 classified staff. Motion carried, 5-0. Aye: Kamphaus, Metschke, Scott, Sladek, Tomjack. Nay: 0. Brady Dexter absent.

Executive Session – 

Classified Negotiations

The Board President recommended the Negotiation Strategy discussion be held in closed session to protect the public interest. The Board President moved that the board enter closed session for Negotiation Strategy session.

a. Motion by Terry Kamphaus, seconded by Jamie Tomjack to enter Executive Session for Negotiation Strategy session at 9:54pm. Motion carried, 5-0. Aye: Kamphaus, Metschke, Scott, Sladek, Tomjack. Nay: 0. Brady Dexter absent.

b. Motion by Monte Metschke, seconded by Jamie Tomjack to invite Mr. Jesse into Executive Session         at 9:54pm. Motion carried, 5-0. Aye: Kamphaus, Metschke, Scott, Sladek, Tomjack. Nay: 0. Brady Dexter absent.

c. Motion by Monte Metschke, seconded by Jon Sladek to return to open session at 10:52pm. Motion carried, 5-0. Aye: Kamphaus, Metschke, Scott, Sladek, Tomjack. Nay: 0. Brady Dexter absent.

Adjournment

Motion was made by Amy Scott, seconded by Jamie Tomjack, to adjourn the meeting at 10:57pm on February 17, 2025. Motion carried, 5-0. Aye: Kamphaus, Metschke, Scott, Sladek, Tomjack. Nay: 0. Brady Dexter absent. The meeting was duly adjourned.
