Carol was born Oct. 23rd, 1929, in the country near Emmet on her grandmother's birthday. When she was four years old, her parents moved the family to O'Neill. Carol attended all 12 grades of school in O'Neill and graduated in 1947.

She taught grade school for one year after graduating high school and then became a bookkeeper for the Lee Store in O'Neill.

After several years working as a bookkeeper, Carol decided to go to business college in Norfolk. After completing her college education, she went to work for the Howard J. Strong Architect firm in Norfolk.

Carol worked for the architect firm until her marriage to Donald Keyes of Inman on Sept. 24th, 1955. To this union were born four children Joyce, Scott, Kevin and Dayle.

Carol enjoyed gardening, making quilts, reading mystery novels and her scriptures. She made each of her children bed quilts, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren baby quilts.

She was an active member in the Community of Christ Church and held many offices. Carol was a music director, Sunday school teacher and women's leader. When her boys were old enough and became Cub Scouts, she became a den mother. Carol also enjoyed playing the piano and encouraged her daughter to take up lessons. Her daughter then also learned to play starting at the age of eight.

Carol worked several years for the Holt County Historical Society. She enjoyed researching family histories, especially for those that came in from out of town wanting to know about their ancestors. She also enjoyed putting together her family genealogy and made copies for each of her children.

Carol is survived by her four children Joyce (Robert) Waterman of Emmet, Scott (Shirley) Keyes of Inman, Kevin Keyes of Wayne and Dayle (Rhonda) Keyes of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald in 2010, three sisters and one grandchild.
